Some parents are taking it upon themselves to ensure their children get a good education, which is why Texas is seeing an increase in homeschooling.

New research says the percentage of kids homeschooled jumped 75 percent in the past eight years.

Students are also seeing the benefits of homeschooling. Annika Clark was homeschooled up until college and said the homeschooling helped her excel quicker.

"I could rush through something if it was easy for me, but in public school you have to wait for other people and the slowest person in class to also get it," Clark said.

The Bell County Christian Home Educators Association says their student population jumped sixty-percent from 2009 to 2010.

Temple mom roxanne Myers says she enjoy the time she gains with her children through homeschooling.

"We laugh, we cry, we learn, we play together," Myers said. "And that time that they are out in school, we wouldn't have that time."

Killeen ISD says public education offers a variety of educational opportunities.

They support parents rights to make whatever choices they believe are best for their children's education

A choice Myers would like others to consider.

"Talk to others that do it," she said. "I've heard parents say oh I could never teach my kids but they'd be surprised. "

Texas leads the nation in the number of homeschooled children with 300- thousand kids being taught at home.
