Homeschoolers from all over Arkansas will converge at the State Capitol today to put their best homeschooling foot forward.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Homeschoolers from all over Arkansas will converge at the State Capitol today at 9 a.m. to put their best homeschooling foot forward.

It's all in celebration of Home School Day.

The Education Alliance, a division of the Arkansas Family Council, is inviting expecting more than one-thousand home school students and parents from across the state to show up on the steps of the Capitol.

Jerry Cox with the Arkansas Family Council says this is an opportunity for homeschoolers across the state to bring homemade desserts for the legislators, visit with lawmakers and tour the State Capitol.

"Homeschoolers have a particular interest in what goes on in the capitol and so they'll come and get to learn the legistlative process, sit in on committee meetings and see how those work and get to meet other legislators they might not have met otherwise," says Josh Metzger with the Ark. Family Council.

According to Cox, the homeschooling movement has increased dramatically in the state. Homeschooling became officially legal in Arkansas in 1985 with about 500 children being home schooled. That number has grown to over 16,000.

Anyone interested in learning more about home schooling can contact the Arkansas Department of Education or call the Arkansas Family Council at 501-375-7000.
