BRIEFS Townsend Methodist Church Yard Sale, June 26 Townsend United Methodist Church Yard Sale is Saturday June 26, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale is an indoor event so it will be held rain or shine. The church is located at 265 Main St., at the corner of routes 13 and 119, in Townsend Center. This is the time of the year for seasonal cleaning and recycling your no longer needed items. Chairman Marcia MacMaster invites area residents to call the church if you have items to donate. Please, no computers, exercise equipment, luggage or encyclopedias. Peace Corps presentation Attend a Peace Corps Information Session and learn about the organization's mission of service and how you get started as a volunteer. The session will be held Weds., June 30, at 6 p.m. in the Townsend Public Library, Meeting Hall B, 12 Dudley Road. Peace Corps volunteers are stationed in 77 countries, assisting in areas of Business, Health, Education, Information Technology, Agriculture, and Environment. Townsend Methodist Church to Host Vacation Bible School Townsend United Methodist Church is hosting a Vacation Bible School Monday, August 2 through Friday, Aug. 6 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The curriculum, "Galactic Blast" will give children an extraordinary adventure filled with fun, excitement, and creative Bible-based activities. VBS decorations, activities, crafts, skits, games, music and snacks are all part of the week long program. The VBS is open to all children of the area ages 4 -12. Softball players needed Softball skills and games will be included in the training sessions for grades 7-11 for students from Ashby, Pepperell and Townsend. This free introductory softball clinic, sponsored by Townsend Recreation, will be held on Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at a local field. The clinic will run every Sunday through Aug. 29. Several local coaches have banded together to produce a top-notch clinic. This clinic will help when trying out for local and school teams. Parent/Toddler Program director needed Townsend Recreation-Parent/toddler program at the Kid's Kountry Playground. Counselor will oversee free play, story time, craft time, snack time and games, while parents help. Still seeking person to run this program. Program will be held June 29, July 1,6,8,13,15,20,22,27,29, Aug. 3 and 5 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. ; $45/child. Parents are responsible for their own child's morning snack. Townsend to Host Circus The Townsend Recreation Department has signed a contract with the Kelly Miller Circus for the exhibition of an all new 2010 show. The circus will roll into town to the Hawthorne Brook Middle School Field on Thursday, July 1. Everyone is invited to come out and watch the animals being unloaded and fed, and the elephants raising the big top. Activities will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the tent will be raised at 9 a.m. Guides will be furnished for groups and anyone attending. The traditional "old style" circus will present two performances at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Support the Townsend Recreation Department and enjoy a great show!
